David J. Ballou, Esquire - Attorney and Director
David J. Ballou, Esq., is Attorney and Director at Ballou Law. Prior to the establishment of Ballou Law, Attorney Ballou ran and operated Ballou & Bedell with attorney-partner Kathryn Bedell for over thirty years. For nearly as long he has been an elite producer in northern New England as an underwriter and agent for First American Title Insurance Company.
Attorney Ballou is a member and former president of the York County Bar Association; Maine Bar Association (Real Estate and Title Section); and the Greater York Chamber of Commerce. He is a former Board member of several local organizations in southern Maine, including York Land Trust; Brixham Montessori Friends School; Town of York Board of Assessment Review; and New Hampshire East Youth Hockey Association, where he was also Vice President and Coach. He regularly volunteers for and sponsors (through his law firm) The Big Andrew Foundation’s local surf competition on Long Sands Beach in York, founded and championed by his nephews.
Attorney Ballou attended Colby College (B.A.) and Suffolk University (J.D.) and was subsequently admitted to the Bar in both Maine and Massachusetts. He enthusiastically subscribes to and models a work hard, play hard philosophy. When he’s not in the office, you might find him surfing, golfing, practicing yoga, or supporting the local art community.

Daniel J. Tothill, Esquire - Associate Attorney
Daniel J. Tothill, Esq. is an Associate Attorney at Ballou Law. Prior to joining Ballou Law, Dan spent seven years representing Certified Development Corporations (CDCs) in Small Business Administration (SBA) loans helping small businesses buy real estate and equipment.
His expertise encompasses real estate, commercial lending, including loan structuring, documentation, and closings. Dan has successfully assisted in the financing of over 1,600 commercial loans, totaling more than $795 million for small businesses across New England. His proactive approach to negotiating loan terms and resolving complex legal disputes has earned him a solid reputation in the field. Dan combines extensive legal knowledge with a commitment to supporting the growth of local businesses.
Dan attended Bryant University (B.A.) and University of New Hampshire School of Law (J.D.) and was subsequently admitted to the Bar in New Hampshire and later Maine. When he’s not in the office, you might find him playing hockey, woodworking, or tinkering with an old car.

Michelle Haskell - Paralegal
Michelle brings over twenty years of experience to the firm, with a background in mortgages, title and real estate. Michelle helps clients navigate the process of buying and selling real estate, providing her knowledge of the law while streamlining the closing experience.
As a graduate of Wells High School and the University of Maine, Michelle feels fortunate enough to call Southern Maine home. Being able to support the local communities as part of the team at Ballou Law is the driving force behind her professional yet friendly approach to real estate law.
When Michelle is not around the closing table she enjoys spending time with her two children and husband taking advantage of the area's beaches, antique shops and restaurants.

Melanie Glazier - Closing Lead
Melanie works as a residential closing coordinator/processor at the firm. She came to us with strong customer service skills and a background in mortgage lending. Melanie enjoys working closely with clients to ensure a smooth real estate transaction. Melanie moved to Maine because of her love for the outdoors. She also enjoys volunteering in the community and has volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters now for over 7 years.

Sarah E. Ross, Legal Assistant
Sarah is David’s legal assistant and the primary contact for the firm’s corporate and LLC clients. She manages annual report filings with the Maine Secretary of State, guides clients through the process of company formation, and maintains corporate records, ensuring knowledgeable and friendly service.
With firsthand knowledge gained from forming and managing her own educational consulting business, Sarah is an empathic and supportive guide, helping clients navigate complicated legal requirements.
Sarah lives in York Harbor, where she enjoys entertaining, beach walks, yoga, golf, piano playing, reading, and writing. A published poet, she occasionally gives public readings of her work.

Jill Crowley - Office Administrator
Jill is our Office Administrator. She is a great addition to our law firm, having over 8 years of office management and customer service experience. Jill is usually the person that you will speak with when first contacting our firm. Jill will ensure that you are directed to the best person at the firm to assist you with your legal needs. When Jill is not in the office, you can find her gardening, relaxing or hiking with her husband and dog.

Eleanor has been with the firm for over 10 years. She has a strong background in human resources and administration and brings a wide range of knowledge and experience to the firm to ensure both client and employee satisfaction.
